Hadisubroto and Villa named Athletes of the Week

Senior Yules Hadisubroto of the men's tennis team and junior Tina Villa of the track and field team have been named Athletes of the Week.

Hadisubroto improved his singles record this season to 18-13 with his efforts this weekend. Helping guide the Bulls to three victories, he posted two third set wins, including a comeback victory over Northern Illinois' Jimmy Chu. The wins pushed Hadisubroto's current streak to five straight matches.

Villa posted an impressive performance at the Miami Invitational on Saturday. She won the discus with a throw of 138 feet, beating out teammate Sarah Vance en route to the victory. She also came in second-place in the shot put with a throw of 44-feet 3.5-inches, this time finishing just behind Vance in the runner up position.

Geltz receives conference honors

Sophomore pitcher Steve Geltz was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week. This is the first time Geltz has received the honor and the second time for a Bulls player.

Against Niagara University, he threw 2 1/3 strong innings, striking out batters for each of the seven outs he earned. He only allowed one hit and one walk in his relief performance that helped keep his team within striking distance down the stretch.

Versus Western Michigan, Geltz threw 2 2/3 innings, striking out a pair of batters and allowing only two hits. He earned his first save of the season for his effort, preserving the Bulls 3-1 victory.

For the season Geltz leads the Bulls with ten appearances and has posted 23 strikeouts in 21 innings. He has a 3.86 ERA and his opponents are managing just a .218 batting average against him this season.

Baseball cancelled due to weather

The Bulls baseball team was forced to postpone its double-header Tuesday afternoon against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. The teams will make up the games at a later date that is yet to be determined. The Bulls next take the field against the Ohio Bobcats in Athens, Ohio on Friday.

Volleyball adds two more to roster

After signing two prospects earlier this year, volleyball head coach Jim Lodes has announced the signing of an additional pair for the upcoming 2007-2008 season. Richelle Bigelow and Kristin Bignell have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Bulls this fall.

Bigelow attended Dakota High School in Littleton, Colo. As an outside hitter for the team, Bigelow was a two-time All-Conference selection and was also a standout on the Juggernaut Volleyball Club.

Bignell is a native of Drayton, Ontario, Canada and played for Norwell District Secondary School. She helped lead her team to two consecutive titles at the Central Western Ontario Secondary School Association Championships ad twice to the consolation finals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association Championships.
