We now present to you for the first time: Mr. and Mrs. Engineering

The engineering department's finest came out to strut their stuff in the second annual Mr. And Mrs. Engineering Pageant on Monday.

Operating under the slogan, "So you think 'nerdy' is a bad thing? Think again," the pageant was run by the Society of Women Engineers and kicked off engineering week.

"Each of the contestants were judged on three different categories, business attire, nerdy attire and a talent," said Elizabeth Uhl, a sophomore civil engineering major and the society's treasurer.

Women were allowed to compete for the first time this year. Each contestant represented a different engineering club for a chance to win the glory of being crowned Mr. or Mrs. Engineer.

"Most of the contestants agreed that deciding on a talent was the hardest part," said Alex Sullivan, a sophomore electrical engineer. "One contestant, Guy Tuori did the dance from Napolean Dynamite that was probably the funniest talent."

Each contestant was scored out of ten possible points by judges recruited from the Society of Women Engineers and members of the audience. Sullivan, as a contestant herself, decided on photography as her talent

The two contestants who were lucky enough to be crowned Mr. and Mrs. Engineer were Dan Berke and Jess Fuller, beating out 10 other candidates. Both were crowned, adorned with sashes and given $10 gift cards to Starbucks. The runners up were given $5 gift cards.

"Overall it was a fun experience. I got to meet new people and had a great time," Sullivan said. "We had a great turn out and it helped to create awareness during engineering week. Hopefully next year's pageant will be just as good."
