Swimming honors seniors but loses final match

The Eastern Michigan Eagles defeated the women's swimming and diving team Saturday inside the Alumni Arena Natatorium. The loss ended the Bulls' regular season on a sour note, keeping them winless in Mid-American Conference contests.

The Eagles posted a convincing 146-92 victory to improve to 6-1 in the MAC, 9-2 overall. The Bulls dropped to 0-7 in the MAC and 2-9 overall.

The Buffalo effort was highlighted by a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The 1:39:40 finishing time came on the backs of freshmen Laura Powalski and Samantha Palma, along with juniors Meghan Lafferty and Andrea Scharf.

Senior Kahla Walkinshaw also turned in a victory in her final match of her career in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08:67.

On the diving platform freshman Meili Carpenter grabbed the victory in the three-meter event as well as reigning in a second-place finish in the one-meter event.

The Bulls will bid farewell to eight seniors, including Walkinshaw, Danielle Gervais, Julie Marcotte, Amanda Marcus, Catherine Rowan, Jennifer Skerker, Frances Stephenson and Eugine Viale.

Buffalo's next competition will be in Ypsilanti, Mich. for the 2007 MAC Championships form Feb. 14-17.
