Budd and Bennett named Athletes of the Week
Senior 133 pound wrestler Mark Budd and junior guard Stephanie Bennett of the women's basketball team were named Athletes of the Week. Budd is 4-0 in his last four bouts, and helped propel the Bulls to a five-match win streak before they fell to Northern Illinois. Budd is now ranked 12th in the nation in the InterMat/NWCA/NWMA poll.
Bennett averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds in Buffalo's last two games, including a career-high 20 point outburst against Ohio. In the two games, Bennett also compiled 13 assists. The junior leads the Bulls in assists and three-pointers made for the season, with 80 and 37, respectively.
Buffalo's all-time winningest wrestler, Kyle Cerminara, will represent the United States at the 2007 Takhti Cup in Bandar Abbas, Iran on Jan. 18-19. Cerminara will compete at 96 kg/211.5 lbs on a 14-man roster.
Cerminara will be one of four fellow wrestlers from the New York Athletic Conference. USA Wrestling's National Freestyle Resident Coach Terry Brands, a two-time World champion and 2000 Olympic bronze medalist, will coach the team.
