The Student Association announced their upcoming annual Comedy Series on Tuesday with food, "juice pong" and free tickets in the Student Union
"We use music and food to attract students over to the tables," said Jeremy Lyman, former promotions director for SA and volunteer.
Word that TV and film comedian Tommy Davidson is this year's headliner, however, was the real excitement.
Davidson will be performing Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. at the Center for The Arts Mainstage. Students can claim up to two tickets for the event at the SA office in 350 Student Union.
"We were trying to make students aware of SA events, and today was because the Tommy Davidson show is next week," Lyman said.
The Comedy Series is in its sixth year at UB and is funded with the mandatory activity fee. In the past Chris Rock, Dane Cook and Jim Brewer all have performed for students.
Davidson is an African American comedian who has acted in movies, television and even had a stint in music. Davidson was also an original cast-member of television show In Living Color. Some of his film credits include Ace Ventura and Juwanna Mann.
SA plans on having many more events in the Student Union to spread the word on events and SA elections, which will be held later this semester.
"Today was a success, and we got the word out, and the promotions department met their goal," Lyman said.
