Baetzhold 'not seeing the real picture'

I am writing in response to Mark Baetzhold's Letter to the Editor ('Criticism of GSA Vice President "unfortunate,"' Jan. 19), criticizing The Spectrum's reporting. I believe that The Spectrum have made a clear portrayal and report of what have went on with regards to UB's graduate student fees being misused. While Mr. Baetzhold may have positive, enlightening things to say about current VP Jillian Flood, and I am not suggesting in any way that she is not a pleasant individual, the fact of the matter is that Mr. Baetzhold is not seeing the real picture that is Jillian Flood, current Vice President of the graduate student population at UB, was irresponsible in carrying out her duties.

When an individual signs up for a position in office, that individual is signing on to be an accountable, liable officer who manages all her duties with the utmost professional manner and trustworthiness. Jillian Flood was not forthcoming in her expenditures and allowed for such flow of graduate student money to be misused. There is no other justification for it except that she is careless and therefore unqualified to lead.

In addition to that, Jillian Flood has been an officer in the GSA for two consecutive years as the Vice President. Surely after having served the UB graduate student community for almost two years, she would be well versed in the administrative responsibilities of being office. On the other hand, is she well versed enough to think that she can manipulate the system and take advantage of her position?
