Starks earns conference honor
Freshman James Starks, earned a place on the second team 2006 Mid-American Conference football team - Starks is only the sixth player to do so in school history. In its eight-year history in the league the Bulls have yet to have a first-team All-Conference selection. Starks joins alumni Drew Haddad, Brandon Shaughnessy, Craig Rohlfs, Chad Bartoszek and Mark Graham as the only Bulls to ever receive the honor.
Starks finished his freshman campaign with a team-best 704 yards on 175 carries. He also led the team with six touchdowns and ranked second on the team in receptions with 34.
Gill to be inducted in Orange Bowl Hall of Honor
Buffalo head football coach Turner Gill will be inducted into the Regions Bank Orange Bowl Hall of Honor during the 73rd FedEx Orange Bowl on Jan. 2, 2007. Gill participated in the 1984 Orange Bowl, in which his Nebraska team fell to the Hurricanes of Miami, 31-30 after rallying from a two touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter. Gill had a chance to secure the win but could not score on the two point conversion.
As an assistant coach, Gill helped the Huskers capture a pair of Orange Bowl titles which secured national championships for Nebraska, in 1995 and in 1997. Gill appeared at the Orange Bowl three times as a player and five times as a coach.
