McCalla named MAC Player of the Week


The Mid-American Conference announced Buffalo sophomore Brooke McCalla as MAC Player of the Week. McCalla, a midfielder for the Bulls' women's soccer team, recorded two goals and two assists this past weekend.

The Bulls, with the help of McCalla recorded two victories - one over Western Michigan and the other against Northern Illinois. In Friday's 4-2 win over Western Michigan, McCalla notched two goals and added an assist. During Sunday's game McCalla assisted on the game-winning shot in the Bulls victory over Northern Illinois.

With Sunday's performance McCalla became the leader in assists and is third in points on the team. McCalla has scored two goals for the Bulls this season and looks to continue her streak when the Bulls face-off against first-place Toledo on Friday.




The athletic department named Nikesh Singh Panthlia and the Women's Open Eight rowing team as athletes of the week. It was the first time this year that more than one person was awarded athlete of the with the crew team being given the award on the women's side.

Singh Panthlia, who plays for the men's tennis team won both his matches to lead Buffalo past St. Francis. Senior Mike Rockman and Panthlia rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win 8-4 in doubles play. Panthlia also scored a 6-0, 6-0 singles victory.

The Women's Open Eight rowing team was the first American crew to cross the line at the Head of the Genesee regatta on Sunday. The boat defeated several top programs and teams that have won the NCAA tournament before.

The team is comprised off coxswain Sher Briggs and rowers Corinne Blum, Melina DiCosimo, Nicole Cyr, Jessica Hughes, Amanda Mackeigan, Bridget Yannes, Lauren Sexton and Maggie Fairgrieve.
