A clerk at University Grocery & Deli at the corner of Englewood Avenue and Eley Place was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon according to officials at the Buffalo Police Department.
Two black men with a sawed-off shotgun entered the store around 3 p.m. and shot the clerk inside. When police responded the assailants were no longer at the scene, but the murder weapon was recovered.
A stolen red Ford Focus, believed to be the shooters' getaway vehicle, was also recovered by the Buffalo Police Department, as were two shirts possibly worn by the men.
A second incident was reported Tuesday afternoon with a witness citing two men of the same description as those from the Englewood homicide carrying a gun on Minnesota Avenue. Responding police found new graffiti but no evidence of a connection to the shooting.
The Buffalo Police Department is still investigating the homicide and urges University Heights residents to use caution in the vicinity of the crime. As of press time no suspects have been taken into custody.
