Super nova

Sophomore Andreea Novaceanu of the Women's tennis team was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the week. Novaceanu went 2-0 in her singles matches and 1-1 in doubles, helping Buffalo defeat both Toledo and Eastern Michigan over the weekend.

Novaceanu is currently on an 11 match-winning streak, which is a school record in singles play. Last year's MAC freshman of the year, Novaceanu is 24-4 on the season in singles play.


Athletes of the Week

Along with Richards, The Second Varsity 8 of the Women's rowing team was named UB Male and Female Athletes of the Week. The Bulls won the Grand Final of the Knecht Cup in Camden, NJ in 7:29.3. This was the first time a Buffalo boat won an event in the Knecht Cup.


Another addition to 2006 football class

Junior college transfer linebacker Larry Hutchinson is the 19th player to sign a national letter of intent in head football coach Turner Gill's first recruiting class.

The 6-1, 190 pound Seattle native was a first-team All-Conference selection at Compton Community College and accumulated 85 tackles, 13 sacks and three forced fumbles last season.


Amherst Audubon Field to host Big 4 Classic

The third annual Big 4 Baseball Classic will be held for the first time at Amherst Audubon Field on Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26. The previous two years the tournament was held at Dunn Tire Park in downtown Buffalo.

The Big 4 Classic pits the Buffalo Bulls (7-21 overall) against local rivals Canisius (8-22 overall), Niagara (15-13 overall) and St. Bonaventure (9-9 overall). The first round games will be played on Tuesday and the third-place game and championship game will be held on Wednesday.
