Athletes of the week

Junior Mike Rockman of the men's tennis team and freshman Fatimah Hill of the women's track and field team were named UB Male and Female Athletes of the Week for their parts in helping their respective teams succeed.

Rockman went 3-0 in his singles matches over the past week, which moved him into second place on Buffalo's all time wins list with 65. Rockman had a dramatic week, as he defeated Niagara's Walter Garcia in a super-tiebreaker, while also defeating Brian Livingston of Northern Illinois by winning the final two sets. Rockman also clinched the Buffalo victory over IPFW with a straight-sets win over Landry Nzudie.

With a jump of 19 feet, 6.25 inches, Hill set the Bulls women's long jump record while winning the competition at the Bucknell Bison Open. Hill's jump broke the previous record set in 2002 by April Pabilonia by 1 foot, 1 inch. Hill missed qualifying for the NCAA East Regional by two centimeters.

Hill was also on the 4x100 relay squad, which finished second overall.
