While Major League Baseball begins its season this week, the collegiate ranks have been playing ball for a month. Mike Folli and Mary Russell of the baseball and softball teams, respectively, were named UB male and female athletes of the week.

Folli, a sophomore shortstop on the baseball team, hit .471 batting leadoff over the Bulls' four games this week. In the Bulls' 11-3 victory over Canisius, Folli went 4-6 with two RBIs and scoring two runs. Folli leads the team with a .326 batting average, eight doubles and three triples.

Russell typically plays in the outfield, but due to injuries, she filled in as shortstop during the past week. She batted .444 with a homerun over Buffalo's six games. Playing her first collegiate game at shortstop, Russell was dominant in the Bulls' win over the Toledo Rockets, going 3-for-4 with a homerun and two runs scored.
