Indifference makes life easy for renter exploitation

Letter To The Editor

Far too often, UB students forfeit their tenant rights as secondary importance to academic pursuits. But, the pursuit of justice substantiates intellectual power when an active citizen ensures that any disingenuous attack on America's finest ideals is exposed in the courtroom and social forums. Recently, my victory in small claims court against my landlord for unlawfully keeping my security deposit validated the strong system of morality still in place in American society.

The worst get on top in our society because they heavily depend upon the indifference of the decent who are overrun by busy schedules. We must not deceive ourselves into believing that the unscrupulous fear the law because their blatant dismissal of ordinary morals renders them incapable of acknowledging the law. We must enforce the law by exercising the greatest appeal of our Constitution: the right to a fair trial. I encourage any UB student undergoing a tenant right violation to visit Group Legal Services to learn how to take proper legal action.
