Justin Haag, your column "My kind of athlete" was very refreshing to read. I too grew up in Geneseo watching the Ice Knights play. I was a fan growing up and playing youth hockey in the late 70s and early 80s. Those Ice Knight games shaped my life and are responsible for the person I am today. The interaction with some of those SUNY Geneseo players meant the world to me. Guys like Mark Head, Tommy Metzger, Kamikaze Swazi and other guys on those teams, hanging around the rink and signing autographs made my life goal to follow as close to their footsteps as possible. I was never good enough to play at the college level but I was able to follow a career path in Ice Arena Management. I have been in rink management since graduating from SUNY Brockport. I've seen the good and bad in the sport of hockey, sadly more on the bad side. If more kids had the opportunity to be a part of a class act like what Coach Duffy established at Geneseo, hockey would be a better sport. Thanks for the memories!
