The Spectrum's editorial board elected Robert Pape on Monday to serve as the paper's next Editor in Chief.
Pape, a sophomore arts administration major, joined The Spectrum in the fall of 2005 as a staff writer on the news desk. He was then promoted to assistant news editor in the spring of 2006.
This year, he helped coordinate the special issue on housing and reported on topics including military recruitment on campus and the appointment of SUNY Chancellor John Ryan.
Pape said he's excited for the next academic year and his leadership position within the campus publication.
"I'm looking forward to expanding on The Spectrum's role as a resource for students to speak out, get questions answered and ultimately be informed as members of the UB community," he said.
Pape is a native of Webster, N.Y. He graduated from Webster Schroeder High School in 2004 and is the former Editor in Chief of the high school's newspaper, the Webster Schroeder High School Courier.
The election drew three candidates, including Siobhan A. Counihan, news editor, and Silas Rader, managing editor.
