Recent graduate sentenced for tax fraud

An international student who recently graduated from UB was sentenced Wednesday to 10 weeks in jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor tax-fraud charge.

Ozir Ozov, 31, had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of deliberately failing to file his 2001 non-resident income tax return, according to The Buffalo News. The U.S. attorney's office said Ozov, a Russian citizen, already served the 10 weeks in jail after his arrest last year.

District Judge William M. Skretny also ordered him to pay a $2,000 fine.

Ozov, who graduated from UB with a business degree, failed to file a non-resident tax return reporting income from a job and some investments, prosecutor Anthony M. Bruce told The Buffalo News.
