Love in 'Brokeback' not ambiguous

Letter to the Editor

In response to "Where cowboys and directors dare" (Jan. 18): "It's great to see a morally ambiguous story brought to the forefront." Excuse me, but love is not "morally ambiguous." Ever.

It is the only fountainhead and barometer of morality itself. Love is the source of all that is good, while the lack of love is the source of most pain and suffering. Save such phrases for films like "Hostel," which offer human torture as entertainment. In a crazy world in which men are routinely slaughtering one another, watching a film in which two men fall in love is probably as morally exalted an experience as many of us are likely to have.
