A Russian citizen enrolled at UB pleaded guilty Thursday to tax fraud and could face a year in jail and a fine of up to $25,000, according to The Buffalo News.
Ozir Ozov, a geography major who is in the United States on a student visa from Cherkessk, pleaded to a misdemeanor count of deliberately failing to file his 2001 non-resident income tax return, the U.S. Attorney's office announced.
Ozov, 31, of Amherst, had earned income from a job and investments he made with money given to him by his father in Russia that he did not report to the IRS, Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony M. Bruce told The Buffalo News.
His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 1.
