No matter how many pages we have in a given issue, it never seems like enough. There's always one more story we wish we could add. One more feature we wish we could include. The Spectrum averages 16 pages a paper, and space is always a premium.
Today we welcome the return of a regular two-page opinion spread. With this new feature, which will run the first and last Monday of each month, our goal is to offer more space for Op-Ed contributions, guest columns, letters, graphics, cartoons and other items we hope will strengthen The Spectrum's role as a voice in the UB community.
For me, the highlight of expanding the opinion section for the first time in two years will be a new feature called My Turn, a column space open to everyone and anyone in the UB community. Our hope was to run the first My Turn in today's issue, but we decided to hold it back to better pitch the idea to you and allow for a greater response. With My Turn, we are looking for voices, views, stories, and opinions that do not normally appear in The Spectrum. We want to offer our readers something different, let you see the world, for 800 words, though someone else's eyes. Because no matter how hard we try, The Spectrum staff is only so many students, and there will always be opinions, issues, and angles we are missing.
So if you have a story to tell or something to say, whether it's a column or a personal essay, we invite you to write in for My Turn. Submissions and questions can be emailed to spectrum-eic@buffalo.edu.
