Athletes of the Week
A weekly feature on the official site of the UB Bulls, buffalobulls.com, has named their first athletes of the week for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Lee Catchpole, sophomore forward for the men's soccer team is the male athlete of the week after performing well in the first two games of the Bulls Classic. Catchpole, named to the All-Tournament team and declared the Offensive Most Valuable Player, made six goals in first two games, leading the team in scoring.
On the flip side, Katie Weekly, senior middle-blocker on the volleyball team, holds the spot as the female athlete of the week. Weekly, named to the Western New York Invititational All-Tournament team, averaged 2.91 kills and 1.36 blocks per game in the team's undefeated run.
Out and about
Beginning on Thursday Oct. 27, UB will serve as host of the three-day annual conference on Outdoor Recreation and Education. Held by the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education, the event will include general educational, indoor and outdoor activity, research and roundtable discussion sessions. The conference plans to utilize UB facilities such as nearby lakes and creeks, walking and hiking trails, the ropes course and UB's Olympic-caliber natatorium and diving well.
Fumble
In Friday's article, "Huskies maul Bulls in opener," starting quarterback for the UB football team Stewart Sampsel, was incorrectly labeled as a freshman. Sampsel is a junior and the new starter for the Bulls.
