Letter To The Editor

I favor a united Ireland negotiated by the British and Irish governments as well as the elected representatives of the Nationalists and Unionists of Northern Ireland. In a united Ireland, there should be four small assemblies under the Irish Parliament in Dublin. One assembly each for Leinster, Munster, Connacht and the historic nine counties of Ulster. Three Ulster counties are in the Irish Republic.

The people of the former Northern Ireland will appreciate a degree of local autonomy that this area of Ireland once practiced under British rule. I would not preclude the use of United Nations troops as peacekeepers in Ireland during the unification process. The European parliament and the UN must also pass resolutions approving of the unification of Ireland.
