'Spoon scoops award

UB head basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon was recently named the 2005 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District I Co-Coach of the Year. Witherspoon shares the award with Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim.

In his sixth season with the Bulls, Witherspoon guided Buffalo to a school-record 23 wins, while leading the Bulls to the finals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time in school history. Additionally, Witherspoon guided UB to its first postseason appearance in its Division I era, with the Bulls defeating Drexel in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament, 81-76.

Over the past two seasons, Witherspoon has directed the Bulls to a record of 40-22, good for a total of nine more wins than in the previous five years.

Student-athletes aid community

On Wednesday, as part of its community outreach program, UB's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold its third annual CareWears Day.

Buffalo student-athletes and UB mascot Victor E. Bull will escort 25 students via limousine from KIPP Sankofa School in Buffalo on a $100 afternoon shopping spree at Aeropostale in the Boulevard Mall. Lunch at Tully's will follow the shopping excursion before the students return back to school.
