A Solid Season for Men's Tennis

A successful year for the UB men's tennis team (9-12) came to an end on Friday as the team was ousted from the Mid-American Conference Semifinals, compliments of the No. 1 seeded Western Michigan Broncos (17-6).

WMU looked poised and worthy of their regular season crown, defeating the No. 4 seeded Bulls in two doubles matches and all four singles matches played.

In doubles action, Brady Crosby and Tommy Dennis defeated the freshman pair of Albert Alant and Yules Hadisubroto, while junior Josh Liederman and senior Rangga Prayudha were defeated by Dan Grupp and MAC player of the week Jose Orozco.

In singles, UB's Randy Rocchio, Nick Zieziula and Hadisubroto all lost their respective matches.

The Bulls, who had not won a MAC Tournament match since competing in their first league championship in 1999, defeated Toledo in the first round of MAC play on Thursday. UB looked dominant against the team that eliminated them in last year's first round, taking two of three in doubles matches, and three of four in singles play.

Rocchio and Hadisubroto each won their singles matches as well as their doubles with respective partners Nick Zieziula and Albert Alant.

In the conference championship on Saturday, WMU defeated No. 2 seeded Northern Illinois, capturing their third title in six years and 18th overall. With the victory, the Broncos will represent the MAC conference in the NCAA tournament in Tulsa, Okla., on May 22 to May 31.
