Men's Basketball

Reggie Witherspoon, the head coach of UB men's basketball, announced that three of his players will no longer be competing on the court for Buffalo this season due to various reasons.

The lone senior on the team, Jason Walcott, was jettisoned due to conduct detrimental to the team. This will not be a major blow to the Bulls however, as Walcott missed the first 12 games of the season to concentrate on his school work and was only averaging 1.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game for his 29-game career.

Parnell Smith and Marcus Henderson are academically ineligible for the rest of the season and will not be able to play. They will, however, be able to practice with the team.

Smith averaged 0.2 points and 0.8 rebounds in his six appearances this season, while Henderson played five times in averaging 0.4 points and 0.4 assists per game.

Men's Swimming

Mark Sy, a junior on the men's swimming team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week. Sy swam in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle races for the first time this season and won both against the Canisius Griffins. He also swam the second leg on the 200-yard freestyle squad.

His accolades against the Golden Griffins were not Sy's only accomplishments on the season. Sy owns best UB times in both the 500 and 1,000 freestyles for this season, and he also broke Buffalo's 200 butterfly record twice this season. The record he initially broke had stood since 1992.
