Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres split a home and home series this weekend with the Montreal Canadiens. On Friday, the Sables got 36 saves from Mika Noronen and goals from Daniel Briere and Ales Kotalik, as they beat Montreal 2-1. Both of the goals came in the second period, with Chris Drury, Dmitri Kalinin, Curtis Brown and Alexei Zhitnik all adding assists.

There was more great goaltending in Montreal Saturday night but it was the Canadiens' Jose Theodore everyone was talking about. Theodore made 16 saves and added an assist on Chad Kilger's second period goal. The Canadiens took the game 3-0. The Sabres travel to New Jersey to take on the Devils Wednesday at 7:30.

Women's Soccer

Three women's soccer players were named to the All-MAC Team this weekend. Devon Russell and Emily Russell, along with Brenna McJury, were named at the MAC Tournament banquet on Nov. 6. Buffalo was the only team to have more than one player selected.

Devon Russell is a three-time All-MAC player, making the roster in 2001 and 2002. Emily Russell scored the second most goals in UB history with 15 in her first appearance on the All-MAC squad. McJury anchored a defense that allowed one or fewer goals in 12 games this year. This is her first All-MAC.
