Wrestling
Improving to 3-0, the UB wrestling team defeated both Bloomsburg and Findlay at a tri-meet in the Nelson Field House at Bloomsburg University on Saturday.
Findlay was the first to be defeated by UB in a 22-12 match, and then it was Bloomsburg's turn to battle the Bulls. Buffalo beat them 21-13.
Mark McKnight, Ed Pawlak, Dave Edwards and the imposing Kyle Cerminara highlighted UB's stellar day by each winning their two respective matches in UB's contests against Findlay and Bloomsburg.
The undefeated Bulls squad resumes its play at 9 a.m. this Saturday at the Mat Town USA Invitational, which will be hosted by Lock Haven University.
Volleyball
UB volleyball's Nikki Morzenti became the second volley-Bull to ever be named to the All-MAC Freshman Team last Thursday, since Keri Shiels received the honor in 1998.
Finishing behind only the great Lindsay Matikosh, Morzenti tallied 331 kills for Buffalo this season, coming out to 2.88 a game. The 331 kills are the greatest amount ever for a freshman volleyballer at UB.
"We're very proud of Nikki's accomplishments and of the accomplishments of our entire team this past season," said UB head coach Sally Kus. "To have a player get conference recognition tells us that we're definitely headed in the right direction with our program."
Spectrum Athlete of the Week
Ed Pawlak is this week's Spectrum Athlete of the Week for his performances against Findlay and Bloomsburg this past weekend.
Pawlak won both of his matches in convincing fashion. First he thwarted Findlay's Jeff Ostholthoff 7-2, and then he hammered Bloomsburg's Ryan Garner by pinning him in 1:39.
