New Student-Wide Judiciary Justices Approved

The Student Association Assembly approved 10 new Student-Wide Judiciary justices at Tuesday night's meeting.

Chief Justice Paul Verzillo, in a brief introduction, said the 10 candidates for justices were hand picked by the current justices for what he described as their trainability to fill hours in the judicial schedule.

The 10 nominees were Tim Altieri, Anthonia Barake, Staceyann Freckleton, Jessica Mccarthy, Mathew Ringelstetter, Ben Robboy, Scott Schmidt, Michelle Schwach, Bill Sherlock and Agnes Wilewicz.

"The justices are the final say in the judicial system, 98 percent of the time," Verzillo said. "One of our main tenets is professionalism."

The floor was then opened for a period of questions and answers where assembly members addressed the candidates' qualifications for service.

Overall, the group of nominees expressed an interest in law and saw a position on SWJ as a way to learn more about the legal field while giving something back to the university community, according to several candidates.

"These people are all good candidates, I speak for them as I speak for myself," said Altieri.

The new justices were approved with a vote of 25 to two.
