Spectrum Athlete of the Week
For his efforts in the Bulls' 26-17 victory over the Ohio Bobcats, senior kicker Dallas Pelz is this week's Spectrum Athlete of the Week. Pelz kicked three field goals in the third quarter of the game, which snapped the Bulls 18-game losing streak. Pelz scored a career-high fourteen points in the game and his four field goals gave him 28 in his career, which tied him for most in UB history.
Mid-American Conference
Marshall, the school considered the MAC's premier program, accepted an invitation to join Conference USA. The Thundering Herd won five MAC championships and five bowl games in its six years in the conference. The move was set off by the Atlantic Coast Conference, which snatched Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech from the Big East. The Big East, in turn, is expected to invite Marquette, Cincinnati, DePaul and Louisville from Conference USA.
Buffalo Sabres
In their first game back from a two week road trip, the Sabres had their three game winning streak snapped by the Minnesota Wild. Manny Fernandez stopped 31 shots for the Wild, who got goals from Wes Walz, Alexander Daigle and Andrew Brunette. The Sabres didn't score until 7:02 into the third period, when Dmitri Kalinin tapped in a rebound off and Adam Mair shot.
