Athletes of the Week
Fery Kasiman, of the men's tennis team, and Marce Ross, of the softball team, were named UB's athletes of the week.
Kasiman won singles and doubles matches in the Bulls 7-0 victory over Canisius, in the Bulls' home finale. He beat Kurt Felgemacher 6-1, 6-3 in his first singles match. Kasiman then teamed up with Rohan Raikar in the second doubles match to down the Canisius team 8-1.
Ross led the Bulls to two wins over Ohio this past weekend. Ross hit .556 against the Bobcats and drove in the game-tying run in the Bulls' 3-2 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. On Sunday she was 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. She leads the Bulls with 13 runs scored this year and is hitting .344 on the year.
Crew
The women's crew team traveled to Camden, N.J., over the weekend to take part in the Knecht Cup, hosted by Villanova University. The women had an impressive outing, with all four of the squad's entries reaching their finals. The varsity eight A team, led by coxswain Tina LaFountain, won the petite final. They edged out Rhode Island and North Carolina for the win. The varsity eight B team, led by coxswain Katie Johnson, placed second in its race, falling to a boat from the University of Kansas. The novice eight squad, led by Kaitlin Buchheit, finished second in their race, falling to a team from Wisconsin. Finally, the novice four squad finished sixth in the Grand Final.
