SA Cannot Match SBI Services

Letter to the Editor

The proposed plan by the new SA executive board to drop Sub-Board I over the summer is outrageous. The undergraduate population has been poorly informed of the so-called problems with Sub-Board I. What exactly are these problems? As a student, I can say I have greatly benefited from the services provided by Sub-Board I, and as of the letter sent out on the listserv to UB students I do not see any adequate reasons for dropping Sub-Board I.

Why are these decisions being made by polling students enrolled in summer classes? The decision should be made by the majority of the undergraduate students that are here during the fall and spring semesters. Pape and the rest of the executive board are out of line by make decisions to drop all of the outstanding services that SBI offers for reasons that have not even been brought to the bylaw committee of SBI. The only thing that could come out of dropping SBI would be a disaster, and all of the services that are presently offered by SBI may be in jeopardy for incoming students in the fall of 2003.

There is no way the e-board can guarantee the same level of services at the same cost if they drop out of SBI, which has been intact at the University at Buffalo serving students for 33 years. There is no way the e-board will be able to match these long standing services in time for the fall semester.
