Letter To The Editor

Recently, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding MTV being on campus. There has been discussion of how the shows being taped are affecting life both on and off campus. There have been several articles and editorials in the Spectrum weighing in too.

However, the cartoon above the editorials in Monday's Spectrum went too far. I live with two of the girls that pledged for Delta Xi Omega last semester; they are now sisters in that sorority. They are both intelligent young women who are dedicated to their studies and upstanding citizens in our community. This is a far cry from the two girls depicted in Monday's cartoon. I've met several of the girls in the sorority and they are nothing like what was drawn. Their sorority is a sisterhood of young women trying to have fun and help out around the community. There is no reason that the artist had to bash them like he did, or that the Spectrum had to support it. In the future, I urge the Spectrum, and others around campus, to think twice before they start insulting people they don't know.

How does the old saying go? Don't judge a book by its cover?

[Editor's Note: Monday's cartoon featured sorority girls from the fictitious "Delta Eta Omega," not "Delta Xi Omega."]
