Men's Swim Has 18 Lifetime Bests at ECAC's

The UB men's swim team posted 18 lifetime bests at the ECAC championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. over the weekend. As a team, the Bulls scored 142 points at the meet, good enough for ninth place among the 30 teams that scored at the event. Maryland-Baltimore County won the championship for the fifth straight year.

Buffalo, 18 lifetime bests, most of which were set in the preliminary rounds and then bested in the championship and consolation races, brought the team's lifetime best total to 53 for the season.

Freshman Aviv Oren was the standout for UB. Oren placed fifth in the 100-meter breast stroke with a lifetime-best time of 58.19 sections. He scored another lifetime best in winning the consolation final of the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.90.

Oren was also a member of the 200 free relay squad, which took fourth place at the meet. Teammates Jon Yarger, Kevin Kotowski and Tony Lizauckas helped Oren lead the team to a time of 1:25.75.

Yarger and sophomore Alan Lowe scored championship points for UB by finishing in the top eight in a pair of events. Yarger placed seventh in the 500 freestyle, while Lowe captured eighth in the 1650 freestyle.

Buffalo will head to the MAC championships, which start Thursday in Athens, Ohio. Ohio University will host the event in which UB placed seventh last season.
