Off Your Duff, Out to the Games

This is response to the article about the availability of the Empire Sports Network in the dorms at UB by Bryan Perry ("Still No Coverage of UB Sports," Dec. 3). There is no reason to have the Empire Sports Network available in the dorms to see UB sports. Having it in the dorms will not increase interest in UB sports. The way to increase interest in UB sports is to get out of the dorms and go over to UB Stadium or Alumni Arena and see the teams in action live and in person.

Having watched the Rutgers game on MSG Network at home in New York City and attended the Marshall game in person, I am at a loss as to why any one who is living on campus at UB would have wanted to watch the games on television. Both games were played in beautiful weather and were meant to be seen in the stadium rather than in front of the boob tube. It does not take much to get over to UB Stadium or Alumni Arena from any of the dorms on either campus.

Among my greatest memories from my years at UB was attending games at Rotary Field and Clark Hall. It is from going to the games that one develops a love for their college that will last them a lifetime. Sitting in the dorms to watch a game that is being played a few hundred yards away is ridiculous. The argument over seeing games on Empire in the dorms can be revisited when the student body at UB attends the games in such numbers that there are no tickets available to the games and seeing the game on television would be the only option because of sell outs.
