Men's Swim Flounders to Ohio

In their first meet of the 2001-02 season, the UB Bulls swim team suffered a 156-87 defeat by MAC rival Ohio Bobcats. The Bulls exploded off the blocks by winning three out of the first four events, but the Bobcats proved to be too strong and prevailed by taking eight of the last nine.

In the first race, UB's freshmen trio of Aviv Oren, Evan McCormack and Emir Askan, along with junior Mike Szyprowski teamed up to win the 200-meter medley relay with a time of 1:37.45.

Oren also had two notable individual achievements: first place in the 50-meter freestyle in 22.17 and second place in the 200-meter breast stroke with a time of 2:14.38.

The Bulls' final two first-place finishers were Alan Lowe and Kevin Kotowski. Lowe won the 1650-meter freestyle, finishing in 16:59.13, and Kotowski took the 100-meter freestyle by clocking a 48.28.

Lowe also turned in a second place performance in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 1:59.46, while Kotowski finished the 50-meter freestyle in 22.20, a time good enough to tie for second place.

For the Bobcats, Robert Krichbaum swept the diving competitions with 256.25 points and 262.40 points in the one-meter and three-meter events respectively.

The Bulls next meet will be Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at St. Bonaventure University.
