Volleyball Gets Swept Out of Alumni

Last weekend, the University at Buffalo women's volleyball team faced two tough MAC opponents, failing to salvage a win in either contest and dropping their record to 4-13 for the season and 0-8 in conference play.

Friday, the team was home in Alumni Arena hosting defending against MAC Tournament Champions the Western Michigan Broncos. After losing the first game by the score of 29-31, the Broncos showed why they are the defending champs and beat the Bulls in three straight games with scores of 30-25, 30-25 and 30-17.

Sophomore Alexis Bouie, who had four of the team's five blocks, led the Bulls' defense.

Even with the loss, one of the Bulls managed a career night. Freshman Katie Henry posted a match and career-high six service aces for UB.

The squad was once again at home on Sunday, taking on the Ball State Cardinals. The team found themselves overmatched and were swept in three straight games.

The Bulls had a chance in game two and even earned a game-point opportunity, but Ball State fought it off, eventually pulling in a 33-31 victory. The Cardinals dominated in games one and three, winning by scores of 30-20 and 30-25, respectively.

Senior Larissa LaCour finished the night with 33 assists and six digs to aid the Bulls. Bouie recorded eight kills and a block and Barfuss added five kills, nine digs and two blocks.

The Bulls, who have played five straight matches at home, will take to the road for two matches this weekend. The team faces Kent State Friday, Oct. 19 and Akron Saturday, Oct. 20.
