Campus Fire Report

At about 10 a.m. Thursday, students in the Governors Residence Halls were forced out of their rooms by a fire alarm when a truck parked near the complex caught on fire.

The fire began when the truck's motor ignited while in use. The buildings were evacuated for close to an hour, while fire trucks and police arrived at the scene.

The fire took approximately 20 minutes to subdue, during which time traffic on the Audubon Parkway was cut off to permit the arrival of emergency personnel.

The truck belonged to a private company hired to perform a service on the buildings, said John Woods, associate director of University Police.
