Burrows Bulls' Best at X-C Western International

After two weeks of inactivity, the University at Buffalo's cross country squad headed north of the border to take part in the 27th Annual Western International meet, hosted by Western Ontario University. Buffalo was the only American school on the field.

The women finished in the middle of the pack, placing 7th out of the 12-team field. The men's race was canceled when heavy thunderstorms hit the course.

Melissa Burrows gave the Bulls' best performance, finishing the five-kilometer race in 18:54. Burrows placed 10th overall, and was named athlete of the week for the accomplishment as well as being the first UB finisher at the Western Ontario International cross country meet.

Also supporting the Bulls' efforts were Jessica Moldovan, who finished with a time of 19:50, and Jenny Koeppel, who finished in 20:00. They took 29th and 35th place, respectively.

The Bulls also had two other finishes in the top 50, including Christina Keck, who took 43rd overall in a time of 20:17, and Tarynn Knarr, who finished in 44th place with a time of 20:23.

Debbie Buhlers of Waterloo won over 103 competitors with a time of 18:05. In team competition, Guelph took home first, followed by Waterloo and Queens in second and third, respectively.

This week both the men's and women's squads head to Pennsylvania to take part in the St. Francis Invitational Saturday, Sept. 29.
