UB women’s tennis makes regular season history

The women’s tennis team is running through the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls, who have been undefeated since February, won their past ten matches and have a perfect 6-0 record in the MAC. Head coach Kristen Maines said their success isn’t surprising.
March was an eventful month for UB Athletics. It saw the conclusion of two of the most historic basketball seasons in school history.
UB women’s tennis team started their season off poorly, losing three straight games. But they haven’t lost since April 7. The Bulls are heading to Columbus, Ohio to square off against the third seed Ohio State Buckeyes in the NCAA tournament.

Men’s Basketball (15-4, MAC 9-7) The Men’s Basketball team lost the annual blackout game on Friday 89-83 to the Akron Zips (23-6, MAC 13-3). The game drew a large crowd because of the hype around the team and the free t-shirts.
Men’s basketball (13-12, 7-5 Mid-American Conference) Buffalo’s men’s basketball team continued its win streak this week when they picked up two more victories against the Northern Illinois Huskies and Bowling Green Falcons.
UB men’s basketball defeated Ball State (15-8, 6-4) 96-69 Friday in a nationally televised game at Worthen Arena. It was the third straight game in which the Bulls scored 90 points, the first time they have done that since the ’94-’95 season.
Women’s basketball (15-5, 5-4 Mid-American Conference) After starting the season hot and jumping out to a 10-0 start, the Buffalo Bulls women’s team faced their first taste of defeat this season when they fell to Harvard 74-62 in their second game after Christmas.
Softball (14-27, 8-6 Mid-American Conference) The Bulls dominated their weekend series with Bowling Green (16-27, 4-10 MAC) at Nan Harvey Field.
Men’s basketball (17-14, 10-8 Mid-American Conference) The Bulls finished their final game of the regular season with a dramatic victory.
The men’s squad went 1-1 this past week and ended its three-game losing streak after an 88-74 home victory over Bowling Green (13-14, 4-10 MAC). Earlier in the week, Buffalo lost on the road to top-seeded Akron (21-6, 10-4 MAC) 80-70 before heading back home to take the victory over the Falcons.

Not only was it seeking a win in its regular season finale, the Bulls were also out for redemption - the Zips eliminated them in the first round of last year's MAC Championships. UB sports fans have long waited to see a winner in Alumni Arena and UB Stadium. But fans need only to venture a few miles off campus to the Miller Tennis Center to see two Buffalo teams enjoying consistent success. The men's tennis team (9-5, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) received its first-ever top-75 ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association earlier this season, and the women's team (11-3, 2-1 MAC) has had an impressive start of its own - winning 10 of its last 12 matches. The women's tennis team has enjoyed comfortable victories in seven of its first eight matches this season. The Bulls (8-1) cruised to their seventh consecutive victory, defeating ASA (2-1), 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville. In a mostly tame match, there was one matchup that featured some excitement. Senior Laura Fernandez earned the team's final victory of the day over Dayana Agasieva.
On a Sunday most known for food, beer and football, the women's tennis team toppled its opposition. It was the first-ever victory for the women's tennis program over a Big 12 opponent, as the Bulls (3-0) took to the hard courts of the Miller Tennis Center and defeated West Virginia (1-3). Buffalo got off to a good start in doubles play and carried the momentum through to the singles matches, ultimately taking the match from the Mountaineers by a final score of 6-1.
The men's tennis team appeared to be doomed for an early exit in the Mid-American Conference tournament when it dropped the doubles point to Ball State (18-10, 4-3 MAC) 2-1 on Friday.
