"Quick Hits: Volleyball, women's soccer split; men's soccer drops lone game "

Volleyball (16-5, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) After dropping two of the first three sets on Friday night, the Bulls needed to win the final two sets to secure their fourth conference victory of the season on Friday night. Buffalo rallied to take the final two sets, 25-21 and 15-12, against Northern Illinois (11-10, 3-4 MAC). Sophomore outside hitter Tahleia Bishop and senior outside hitter Christine Fritsche combined for 32 kills to lead the Bulls. Buffalo was unable to carry this momentum into Saturday night, as it dropped its matchup with Western Michigan (12-9, 5-3 MAC) in straight sets. Men's Soccer (2-9-3, 1-3 MAC) The Bulls held their own for over 100 minutes against Akron (10-3, 3-1 MAC) - one of the best men's soccer programs in the country.

Quick Hits: Close games rule the weekend

Volleyball (15-4, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) The Bulls played well on the road this weekend, splitting their contests with Bowling Green (7-9, 4-1 MAC) and Miami Ohio (9-9, 1-5 MAC). On Friday night, Buffalo had a 2-1 lead over the Falcons but could not put them away in the fourth set and eventually lost, 27-25, 16-25, 25-17, 14-25, 21-23. The Bulls dropped their first set Saturday but then won three straight to defeat the RedHawks. Senior libero Kelly Svoboda had 47 digs on the weekend while Tahleia Bishop had 38 kills. The Bulls host Northern Illinois (11-9, 3-3 MAC) and Western Michigan (10-9, 3-3 MAC) next weekend. Women's Soccer (4-7-2, 1-5 MAC) The Bulls continued their early-conference woes this weekend, dropping their match against Kent State (9-5, 4-2 MAC) on Friday, 1-0. Buffalo went scoreless again on Sunday, dropping its third straight match to Ohio (6-4-4, 2-2-2 MAC), 1-0, despite outshooting the Bobcats 23-12. The Bulls will look to get their offense going as they come down the back half of the conference schedule when they host Bowling Green (0-11-1, 0-5-1 MAC) and Central Michigan (3-9-1, 3-2 MAC) next weekend. Men's Soccer (1-8-3, 0-2 MAC) In head coach Stu Riddle's return to Western Michigan (4-6, 1-0 MAC), the Bulls were thoroughly outplayed in their second conference matchup as they lost 4-0. Buffalo was outshot 22-5 and allowed three goals in less than 10 minutes late in the second half, as the Broncos pulled away. Junior midfielder Kristian Lee-Him was given a red card in the 89th minute of the game and will not play in Tuesday's matchup with Hartwick (4-5-2, 2-0 MAC) at UB Stadium.

UB Athletics busy breaking records this fall

Football Not only is the Bulls' 3-2 start a team record - the best start through five games since joining the FBS in 1999 - but Buffalo's seniors are looking to leave their own individual marks in program history. Senior running back Branden Oliver had his 13th 100-yard game last week against Eastern Michigan - tying the school record for career 100-yard games.

Volleyball (14-3, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) The volleyball team opened its weekend with a Thursday night match against Akron (6-9, 0-4 MAC). The Bulls fell behind two sets to zero, but fought back and won three straight sets to take their second straight match. On Saturday night, Buffalo traveled to Ball State (15-4, 3-1 MAC) but fell to the Cardinals in straight sets. Sophomore outside hitter Tahleia Bishop had 28 kills on the weekend. Women's Soccer (4-5-2, 1-3 MAC) After losing its first two conference games at home last weekend, the women's soccer team looked to turn its season around with a road trip this weekend. The Bulls won their first conference game of the season on Friday night, besting Toledo (4-8, 1-3 MAC), 3-1. They looked to bring their conference record back to .500 on Sunday afternoon against Northern Illinois (4-7-1, 2-2 MAC), but lost 2-1 in double overtime. Men's Soccer (1-7-3, 0-1 MAC) After a disappointing non-conference schedule in which the men's soccer team won only one game, the Bulls looked to turn things around on Friday night when they hosted Bowling Green (2-4-4, 1-1 MAC) in their conference opener. Buffalo could not get going on offense, however, and dropped the match 1-0.

No place like home

The volleyball team faced its toughest stretch of the season recently. Six of the Bulls' first eight conference games were on the road, and they won only one of those eight games.
