The men’s basketball team (19-9, 10-6 Mid-American Conference) went 2-0 this week with victories over Akron (18-11, 9-7 MAC) and Kent State (19-10, 10-6 MAC). The Spectrum graded their performance.
The Bulls (19-9, 10-6 MAC) pulled out a victory over Kent State (19-10, 10-6 MAC) 71-65 in the MAC Center in Kent, Ohio in their first four-game winning streak of the season. Buffalo has now moved into a tie with the Golden Flashes for second place in the MAC East.
The women’s basketball team’s head coach Felisha Legette-Jack called a timeout with less than 15 seconds remaining in Saturday’s game, but had no intention of talking to the team or drawing up a play. With the Bulls up by seven points, the timeout was used to make a personnel switch.

When colleges are given the choice to either make a switch to Division II or stay in Division I, most would choose the latter. Not the UB women’s ice hockey team. The team – who made the switch to Division II at the beginning of the year– saw this season as a “rebuilding year.”
But Loesing, a junior guard on pace to be the women’s basketball team’s all-time leading scorer, broke through for a career-high 32 points Wednesday night. It was still not enough for Buffalo to defeat the No. 1 team in the Mid-American Conference: Ohio.
In her first season with Buffalo, Cordoba has been active in recruiting talent from her native Australia to join the Bulls. The Bulls feature four Australian freshmen this season, including Stephanie Reid, Courtney Wilkins and twin sisters Liisa and Katherine Ups. And while the Bulls are aiming to improve their team with international talent, the players are gaining an experience they were uncertain they’d have.

With the victory, the Bulls are now in third place in the MAC East with three conference games remaining. If the Bulls win out the rest of the season, they will clinch the MAC East title for the second straight year.
In the women’s basketball team’s 78-68 loss to Miami Ohio on Saturday, Buffalo shot just a little over 40 percent from the field and allowed the last place RedHawks to shoot eight of 10 from beyond the arc. But the Bulls (15-10, 8-6 Mid-American Conference) will have to overcome a loss from a team that won three of its last 15 games to face a team that has won 13 of its last 15 games.
The Bulls were banned from both the MAC Tournament and NCAA Nationals due to academic ineligibility. The NCAA requires each team to register a minimum academic performance rate (APR) of 930.
On Friday night, an era of Buffalo wrestling came to a close. Seniors Max Soria and Wally Maziarz – the last two reaming wrestlers from the 12-member 2011 freshman class – wrestled their last matches in a Bulls singlet.
