Bowling Green (8-20, 4-12 Mid American Conference) defeated the Bulls (19-8, 9-7 MAC) 64-62 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Falcons were led by sophomore guard Sydney Lambert, who had a team high 18 points, shooting 5-10 from three. Sophomore guard Carly Santoro contributed 17 points in the upset victory.
The Zips came away with the 89-83 win in front of a rowdy crowd of 6,598 Friday night at Alumni Arena. The Zips had five players finish in double digits. Senior Isaiah Johnson led the way with 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting and six rebounds. Senior wing Blake Hamilton led the way for the Bulls. He finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Buffalo had eight assists but turned the ball over 15 times in the game.
UB’s Kendo club, often referred to as Japanese fencing, is one of the most unique clubs at UB. At first glance, it appears disorganized and chaotic, but the club is rooted deeply in tradition and discipline.

The Buffalo Bulls’ (15-13, 9-6 Mid-American Conference) win streak came to an end Tuesday when they lost 77-69 to the Kent State Golden Flashes (16-12, 8-7 MAC) at Alumni Arena. The Bulls collapsed in the second half and were outscored 45-36. Kent State was led by senior forward Jimmy Hall with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Deon Edwin had five steals and 10 points.
Over the weekend, the Bulls (0-5) traveled to Hammond Louisiana and competed in the Southeastern Louisiana Tournament to start the season. On Friday, the Bulls played a doubleheader, losing 9-1 to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions (6-2) and then losing 4-0 to the Morehead State Eagles (4-4). On Saturday, the Bulls played another doubleheader, this time losing 12-3 to the UT Arlington Mavericks (5-4), and then losing 12-3 to the Alcorn State Braves (3-2).

UB jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and held Akron to 13 points in the first half, in which they shot just 6 of 34 from the field and went 0-10 from beyond the arc. The Bulls led by as many as 44 points midway through the third quarter and their consistent full court pressure defensively flustered Akron, causing them to hoist up prayer shots with just seconds left on the shot clock.
The men’s basketball team (15-12, 9-5 MAC) rolled to their sixth straight win Saturday as they beat the Miami (OH) RedHawks (10-17, 3-11 MAC) 71-58 at Alumni Arena. Senior wing Blake Hamilton led the way with 23 points and shot 5-of-7 on three-pointers. Sophomore Dontay Caruthers added 12 points, 7 assists and three steals. Buffalo struggled shooting a bit in the first half but found their touch in the second.
UB’s baseball program has had a tough run the past few seasons. Last season, the team finished 21-31, 8-16 Mid-American Conference, after struggling through growing pains and injuries last season, The Bulls have not had a winning season since 2013.
John Stutzman doesn’t just want a team that competes in the Mid-American Conference, he wants a team that can win it all. The Bulls are in the middle of a resurgence and just set a program record when they defeated Northern Illinois for their fourth MAC dual win of the season.
Men’s basketball (13-12, 7-5 Mid-American Conference) Buffalo’s men’s basketball team continued its win streak this week when they picked up two more victories against the Northern Illinois Huskies and Bowling Green Falcons.
The first things that jump out when watching Logan Harasta are his height and his fastball. Harasta, a junior right-handed pitcher, is 6-foot-6 and his fastball tops out at 95 miles per hour and lives in the low 90s. He has all the tools.
For three quarters, UB women’s basketball (16-7, 6-6) held Northern Illinois (17-6, 10-2) and their No. 3 scoring offense in the country in check. The Bulls entered the fourth quarter leading 65-60 before the Huskies ripped off 16 consecutive points to start the fourth quarter, opening up a lead they would never relinquish.
Former UB linebacker Khalil Mack was named the NFL’s AP Defensive Player of the Year on Saturday, making him the first former UB player to win the honor. The award is voted on by fifty AP sportswriters who cover the NFL regularly and is considered the highest honor a defensive player can win in the NFL.
UB men’s basketball defeated Ball State (15-8, 6-4) 96-69 Friday in a nationally televised game at Worthen Arena. It was the third straight game in which the Bulls scored 90 points, the first time they have done that since the ’94-’95 season.
Women’s basketball (15-5, 5-4 Mid-American Conference) After starting the season hot and jumping out to a 10-0 start, the Buffalo Bulls women’s team faced their first taste of defeat this season when they fell to Harvard 74-62 in their second game after Christmas.

It was announced Tuesday that UB’s men’s soccer program would promote former assistant coach Davie Carmichael to replace Stu Riddle as head coach. Riddle left UB for Northern Kentucky earlier this month after a highly successful four-year run as head coach.
