UB women’s basketball upsets No. 2 seed Ball State in MAC Tournament quarterfinals

The No. 7 seed Buffalo Bulls (22-9, 11-8 Mid-American Conference) upset the No. 2 seed Ball State Cardinals (21-10, 14-5 MAC) 69-65 in the MAC tournament quarterfinals Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, OH. The Bulls led for most of the game but never pulled away. The game featured eight different ties, but the Bulls never relinquished the lead after going ahead early in the second quarter.

Khalil Mack's younger brother LeDarius Mack commits to UB football

Former UB football standout and current NFL linebacker Khalil Mack’s younger brother LeDarius Mack has committed to UB football, UB Athletics confirmed with The Spectrum on Wednesday. LeDarius is currently a sophomore at ASA College in Miami and plays linebacker. Last season, he totaled 24 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception for ASA.

Rundown: This week in UB Athletics

Baseball (4-5, MAC 0-0) The Bulls played in another three game road series over the weekend against the James Madison Bulldogs (7-2). On Friday the Bulls won 13-8, with junior shortstop Ben Haefner, sophomore first baseman Andrew Taft, and senior second baseman Brian Dudek all having home runs. The Bulls continued on Saturday losing 14-6 to the Bulldogs, letting up eight runs in the sixth inning.


The softball team won their first game of the season over the weekend. The Bulls are still trying to find themselves in the non-conference schedule.

The Rundown: This week in UB Athletics

Men’s Basketball (15-4, MAC 9-7) The Men’s Basketball team lost the annual blackout game on Friday 89-83 to the Akron Zips (23-6, MAC 13-3). The game drew a large crowd because of the hype around the team and the free t-shirts.

UB women’s basketball stunned by Bowling Green 64-62

Bowling Green (8-20, 4-12 Mid American Conference) defeated the Bulls (19-8, 9-7 MAC) 64-62 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Falcons were led by sophomore guard Sydney Lambert, who had a team high 18 points, shooting 5-10 from three. Sophomore guard Carly Santoro contributed 17 points in the upset victory.

UB men’s basketball falls to Akron Zips 89-83

The Zips came away with the 89-83 win in front of a rowdy crowd of 6,598 Friday night at Alumni Arena. The Zips had five players finish in double digits. Senior Isaiah Johnson led the way with 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting and six rebounds. Senior wing Blake Hamilton led the way for the Bulls. He finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Buffalo had eight assists but turned the ball over 15 times in the game.
