The Edge: Buffalo vs. Akron

The Bulls responded from their worst offensive performance of the year by putting up 34 points against the top-ranked defense in the Mid-American Conference and gaining the program’s first-ever road win over the Central Michigan Chippewas. Buffalo (5-1, 2-0 MAC) looks to continue its success Saturday against the Akron Zips (2-2, 0-1 MAC) at home. It will be the Bulls’ homecoming game.

Cutrona was leading the team in points, goals and assists at the time of her injury. She finishes the season with 24 points, 8 goals and 8 assists. Both points and assists are a career high.

Senior wide receiver Anthony Johnson hauls in the touchdown pass. Johnson has remained sidelined the past two weeks with a leg injury, but the team remains hopeful of his status for Saturday.

Where’s number 83?

Relentlessness. Commitment. Pride.  These three words are plastered on every shirt in the UB Football weight room. They are a guideline for how to act and a reminder of what it means to wear blue and white on game days. Senior wide receiver Anthony Johnson has lived up to these words.

Championship growth

The triple gym in Alumni Arena had an air of hunger for program success Wednesday afternoon. Coaches yelling, players pushing themselves in drills and buzzer beaters from half court were all present at the women’s basketball practice.  Even with seven new players, the Bulls have the same hunger for greatness they had last season when Buffalo made it to the Sweet Sixteen.

Bulls lose in heartbreaker

Seven minutes into overtime, junior Ohio Bobcats midfielder Alivia Milesky cut inside to pass senior Buffalo defender Gurjeena Jandu. Milesky faked a shot as freshman goalkeeper Emily Kelly dove in front. Milesky easily dribbled around her to shoot the ball into the empty net and defeat the Bulls 2-1 in overtime. The Bulls soccer team (9-4, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) was defeated by the Ohio Bobcats (5-5-3, 3-1-2 MAC) 2-1 Sunday afternoon. The Bulls led for the first 87 minutes before Ohio was finally able to get a goal past Kelly. Buffalo was unable to keep up its offensive pressure without senior forward Carissima Cutrona and eventually crumbled for its first home loss of the season.

Fantasy Front Runners: Week 5 Fantasy Football Picks

Mark Ingram II and Julian Edelman return from their four-week suspensions and are immediately fantasy starts. Tom Brady has missed Edelman and the New England Patriots offense has struggled without him. The New Orleans Saints are relying heavily on Alvin Kamara but now with Ingram back they can return to the devastating running attack that led the league last season. Injuries have taken more tight ends this week as we see Tyler Eifert, Will Dissly and O.J. Howard all go down. Offense continued to reign supreme and it seems as if you can't score 30 points you will lose.

Next man up

UB football won seven straight games before a 42-13 defeat to the Army Black Knights (3-2) on Saturday. Buffalo (4-1, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) players and coaches have stressed a “next man up” mentality after the Army game. Star senior wide receiver Anthony Johnson barely saw action the past two weeks and redshirt freshman running back Kevin Marks went down with an injury against Army. Without their top receiver and leading rusher, members of Buffalo’s offense will have to step up against a stout Central Michigan Chippewas (1-4, 0-1 MAC) defense.
