Bulls beat Dartmouth to continue undefeated season

The Bulls kept their national rank intact, beating Dartmouth 110-71 Wednesday night at Alumni Arena. The No.22 Buffalo (4-0) was aided by three big performances from senior forward Nick Perkins, junior guard Davonta Jordan and sophomore guard Jayvon Graves. Perkins led the trio in points and rebounds, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Graves and Jordan finished with a combined 32 points and 10 assists. Buffalo scored 55 points in each half, while holding Dartmouth to less than 40 in each.

UB’s rowing club team has been making a fresh name for itself at competitions. It continues to ride the wave of momentum, with strong outings in the last month.  But the club is demanding attention.

Volleyball season comes to end in MAC Championship quarterfinal

Volleyball lost 3-1 to the Eastern Michigan Eagles Friday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Championship in Oxford, Ohio. Buffalo (18-11, 9-6 MAC) came into the tournament on a five-game win streak. The team earned a first round bye with the No. 4 seed in the championship, but was unable to capitalize on it.

Bulls scrape together win in Southern Illinois

The Bulls made back-to-back road wins with their 62-53 victory over the Southern Illinois Salukis on Monday night. The No. 25-ranked men’s basketball team came in to the road matchup off the program’s first top 25 ranking. 


A ropes course is on UB land next to Sweet Home Senior High School. Both schools have plans to see the course taken down, but no dates are set yet.

Taking down the course

University officials are working with Sweet Home Senior High School to take down the unused ropes course on UB property behind the high school’s baseball field. UB has no plans for the course, and the course is no longer maintained, according to UB spokesperson Kate McKenna.

Men’s basketball ranked No. 25

The Bulls are ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time in school history. Coming off their win against No. 13 West Virginia, the Bulls received 154 votes in the first regular season poll. West Virginia finished 26th with 145 votes.

Bulls fall short against Ohio

Ohio prevented Buffalo from becoming MAC East champions for the first time since 2008. The Bulls had the opportunity to clinch the Mid-American Conference East title on Wednesday night. With a loss, the Ohio Bobcats (7-4, 5-2 MAC) would be eliminated from winning the MAC East title.

Q&A with men’s basketball head coach Nate Oats

Nate Oats has gone from high school head coach, to assistant coach of Buffalo, to the 2018 Mid-American Conference coach of the year. Oats has seen players from Blake Hamilton to Wes Clark play for his team but has a mostly familiar group for this season.

Cierra Dillard remembers watching LeBron James when she was young and being stunned. She saw not only the best player on the court, but one that made the whole team look good. She saw a player who didn’t just drop 30 points, but also threatened a double-double with either assists or rebounds.

For most high schoolers, the idea of having to share a room with someone can be daunting. For Nick Perkins, having just one roommate is a relief.

Upset in Morgantown

The Bulls were down 84-81 with 15 seconds remaining. It was obvious who would take the game-tying shot. Senior guard CJ Massinburg pulled up from eight feet beyond the three-point line and swished it. The Bulls finally stormed back from a 13-point second-half deficit.

At home once more to make it four

The Bulls have a vital match-up Thursday against the Akron Zips in the final home game of the regular season. Buffalo’s (16-10, 7-6 Mid-American Conference) rivalry match with Akron (11-14, 3-11 MAC) will give Buffalo a better seed in the MAC Championship if they win.

Liquor license for Alumni Arena and UB Stadium in the works

UB Athletics and Campus Dining and Shops are waiting for approval about serving alcohol at UB Stadium and Alumni Arena, according to Faculty Student Association board meeting minutes from Sept. 10.  The proposal for alcohol would allow CDS to serve beer at UB football and basketball games. In the past, athletics employees have said UB football is catered toward families, but there is no word from athletics if the license will change UB’s game-day atmosphere.

Bulls move up East Division with three-game win streak

Buffalo volleyball is now in first-round bye contention following back-to-back sweeps this weekend. The Bulls went 3-0 against the Kent State Golden Flashes (13-15, 6-8 Mid-American Conference) and the Ohio Bobcats (12-15, 7-7 MAC) in MAC playoff-deciding games. Buffalo saw solid play across the court, with multiple players having good performances throughout the weekend.


Junior forward Summer Hemphill lays it in. Hemphill will miss the majority of non-conference play after being ruled academically ineligible.

Summer Hemphill ineligible for fall semester

Women’s basketball junior forward Summer Hemphill was ruled ineligible to compete during the fall semester, announced on Thursday night by UB Athletics. Hemphill, a social sciences major, failed to uphold institutional academic rules and was declared academically ineligible.
