Men’s basketball defeats Daemen in exhibition game

The UB men’s basketball team dominated Thursday night with a 111-73 victory against Daemen during its first pre-season exhibition. The defending conference champs played a strong game to prove their new lineup has the skills to make a big impact this season. The win is Jim Whitesell’s first as the Bulls’ head coach.

Soccer defeats Western Michigan in final home game

The UB women’s soccer team (8-6-1) has extended its win streak to four straight after an overtime win against Western Michigan (6-8-1) Sunday. The Bulls are coming off a successful week as they shut out Ohio University 2-0 last Sunday and Northern Illinois 5-0 on Friday night.

Six former UB players selected in XFL Draft

Six former members of the UB football team were selected in last week’s XFL Draft, including four selected by the DC Defenders. Quarterback Tyree Jackson, center James O’Hagan, defensive end Chuck Harris, defensive tackle Kristjan Sokoli, offensive tackle John Kling and punter Jake Schum were all taken in the eight-team draft.

Volleyball sweeps Northern Illinois

The Bulls volleyball team (7-13) won its second home game of the week Saturday against the Northern Illinois Huskies (6-16). The Bulls showed their skills in three quick sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) to bring home the win against the higher-ranked Huskies.

Head women’s basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack is used to recruiting her players.  But freshman point guard Jessika Schiffer was different. In Legette-Jack’s words, “Jessika recruited me.”

Get to know an opponent: Akron

Coming off their bye week, the Bulls will travel to InfoCision Stadium in Akron, OH to take on the University of Akron Saturday. The Zips are 0-6 following a 26-3 loss to Kent State.

Continuing tradition

When former men’s basketball coach Nate Oats left for Alabama in March, many were unsure about the future of the program.  Fans didn’t know if UB would hire someone from outside the school. They didn’t know what impact Oats’ departure would have on the 32-4 team.

Volleyball loses heartbreaker in five-set match

The Bulls volleyball team (5-13, 1-5) lost to the Ohio Bobcats (12-7, 4-2) in a grueling five-set match Friday. The Bulls came out strong in the first set, but after back-and-forth play in the remaining sets, UB ended up on the losing end of the battle, finishing the match 25-14, 24-26, 21-25, 25-21, 14-16.

At age three, Alain Schaerer began playing soccer. At age four, he started playing tennis. And it wasn’t until he turned 16 that his friends introduced him to a different kind of football — American football.

Men’s basketball prepares for the 2019-20 season

The 2019-20 men’s basketball season is underway, as the Bulls stepped on the court for their first official practice Sunday.  The defending conference champions are adjusting to a new roster and new dynamic after losing a few key players last season.

Get to Know an Opponent: Ohio

Following a dispiriting 34-20 loss to Miami(OH) (2-3), UB football (2-3) will return to UB Stadium to take on Ohio University (1-3) for their homecoming game Saturday. In their final non-conference game, the Bobcats were stymied by Louisiana-Lafayette, 45-25. Ohio enters conference play with a 1-3 record, after dropping contests to Pittsburgh, Marshall and Louisiana-Lafayette.

Bulls overpower Rockets in five-set matchup

In Saturday night’s thrilling five-set matchup, the Bulls (5-9) played earned their first conference win of the season.  The match kept both UB and Toledo fans on the edge of their seats, as the volleyball teams traded sets back and forth, with the Bulls finally overpowering the Rockets (7-7) in the fifth set, leaving the match 16-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23 and 15-12.
