UB volleyball had a sad end to its season in the Mid-American Conference championships this week. The Bulls came out at full force and swept Akron 3-0 in the opening round of the tournament on Thursday night. This was the Bulls’ first MAC Tournament win since 2009.
The UB women’s volleyball team (11-15) won its last home match of the season against Miami (OH) University (16-9) Saturday. The Bulls defeated the No. 1 team in the MAC East in five sets (25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-9). It was first time Buffalo has beaten Miami (OH) since 2014, and they snapped Miami’s nine-game win streak in the process.
Women’s basketball (1-0) started its season Tuesday night with a 61-56 win against Central Connecticut (0-1). While the Bulls came out victorious, the win was still a tough start for the defending conference champions. Consistent defense kept them in the lead but many players struggled offensively, revealing areas for improvement as the season progresses.
The women’s basketball team may have the youngest roster in the Mid-American Conference this year but they aren’t playing like it. It seemed the Mercyhurst Lakers had no chance against the Bulls, who held a substantial lead for the entire introductory 96-44 exhibition at Alumni Arena on Friday night.
I still remember the first Major League Baseball game I went to. I was eight years old and the Nats were playing the Phillies. I can’t remember if they won or not, but one thing I know for sure is since that day, I have loved watching baseball.
The UB women’s soccer team (8-6-1) has extended its win streak to four straight after an overtime win against Western Michigan (6-8-1) Sunday. The Bulls are coming off a successful week as they shut out Ohio University 2-0 last Sunday and Northern Illinois 5-0 on Friday night.
After a slow start to the season, the volleyball team (2-7) is looking to win the 2019 Blue and White Classic this weekend. The Bulls will compete against Cornell (4-2), St. Francis (0-9) and Canisius (2-7) on Friday and Saturday.
