Former Duke star Hurley introduced as new coach

In just 10 months on the job, Athletic Director Danny White has moved quickly to piece together coaching staffs that can help bring the Buffalo brand to a national level. On Tuesday, just over two weeks after the firing of Reggie Witherspoon, White made another imprint on the Bulls' athletic department. In front of a crowd of athletes, students and fans, White announced that former Duke basketball star Bobby Hurley will begin his era as head coach of the men's basketball team. "We really scoured the country," White said.

"After 18 seasons, Beichner fired as wrestling coach"

On Friday, veteran wrestling head coach Jim Beichner was fired, according to The Buffalo News. Beichner, who was awarded Mid-American Conference coach of the year in 2011, is the second long-time Bulls head coach to be fired in the past two weeks, following former men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon. Beichner could not be reached for comment. The news came on Friday after four wrestlers had qualified for the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. In a much-anticipated season with the return of redshirt senior John-Martin Cannon, the Bulls experienced a setback due to many unexpected injuries.

Save the last swim

In her final collegiate swim - on the biggest stage - senior Mallory Morrell made sure to etch her name into Buffalo swimming history. Morrell became the first swimmer to qualify for the evening session at the NCAA Division I women's championship meet and the first swimmer or diver to earn All-American honors since diver Meli Carpenter in 2010. "To be the first [All-American swimmer] is something very special and a great achievement that nobody can take away from her," said head coach Andy Bashor.

10-love

When the anxiety of losing all the time goes away, sometimes the pressure of winning constantly becomes its own problem. For the women's tennis team, that's a good problem to have. The Bulls (10-0, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) are one of only two programs in the NCAA that is undefeated thus far in the season.

Jim Beichner fired as wrestling coach

Long-time wrestling head coach Jim Beichner has been fired, according to The Buffalo News. Beichner, who was awarded Mid-American Conference coach of the year in 2011, is the second long-time Bulls head coach to be fired in the past two weeks. The news was released on Friday, after four wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. In a much-anticipated season - with the return of redshirt senior John Martin-Cannon - the Bulls underperformed, posting an overall record of 1-11 and a 1-4 Mid-American Conference dual-meet record. Beichner took over the Bulls team in the 1995-96 season - a team that had only compiled just six dual-meet victories in the previous four seasons.

"Oh, Danny boy"

In his short tenure at UB, Athletic Director Danny White has made two highly debatable, unpopular decisions - extending the contract of football head coach Jeff Quinn and terminating the contract of men's basketball head coach Reggie Witherspoon.

"New faces, new attitude, new results"

Nobody knew what to expect from the women's basketball team this season. The squad had a new head coach, only one senior and a Mid-American Conference record below .500 in seven of its last nine seasons. The Bulls (12-20, 8-8 MAC) did not let the negative preseason press stand in their way.

Spurned

Since Athletic Director Danny White fired long-time men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon on Friday, Witherspoon has only heard from the athletic department regarding one matter: How soon can he clean out his office? "How I feel is like death," Witherspoon told The Spectrum.

Reggie Witherspoon fired as men's basketball coach

One of the most popular figures on UB's campus has lost his job. First-year Athletic Director Danny White announced Friday afternoon via email that men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon had been fired. "After much consideration, we have determined that a change in leadership for our men's basketball program is necessary," White said in the press release, adding that he will not be making any more comments on the matter.

CLEVELAND - Before his arrival in Buffalo, sophomore forward Will Regan was not the focal point of a Virginia offense, only seeing 20 games on the floor, averaging 1.9 points per game. After transferring back home to Buffalo, Regan had to wait one year before he could wear the name of his endeared city on his chest. On Wednesday night, the wait was over for Regan.
