Students have mixed reactions to men's basketball team's season

To some students, mediocrity has become the norm when referring to Buffalo basketball. The men's basketball team's 19-win season and first-ever outright Mid-American Conference East Championship pleasantly surprised those students. The Bulls went 19-10 in 2013-14, including a 13-5 MAC record after a 14-20 2012-13 season.

"Bulls win walk-off thriller, split series against Ball State "

Despite scoring at least one run in every inning from the third to the ninth on Friday, the baseball team never held a lead until the game's final swing. Senior Mike Burke's one-out double drove in sophomore infielder Tyler Mautner for Buffalo's 14th and game-winning run in the first game of the squad's weekend series, which was split between two days after being delayed by darkness on Friday night. The Bulls (11-9, 3-2 Mid-American Conference) won the first game of a two-game series Friday in an 11-inning marathon against conference rival Ball State (18-9, 4-1 MAC play), 14-13.

The Bulls (4-2) ended a six-game road trip with a 12-3 loss to Michigan State Saturday in East Lansing, Mich.

Women's tennis easily defeats Huskies on the road

The women's tennis team's motto this year has been to play with consistency and discipline. The Bulls (11-3, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) followed this game plan on Saturday, as they took an early lead in the match and never slowed down, defeating Northern Illinois (6-8, 1-3 MAC) 6-1 Saturday afternoon. Head coach Kristen Maines believes the players executed the game plan perfectly, sticking to what has worked for them all season long. "It's been a theme for us on how we work, by being consistent first and then we're able to win the big point," Maines said.

Hardwood Report Card

When the buzzer sounded at Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday, March 13, at the end of the Bulls' (19-10, 13-6 Mid-American Conference) 69-64 MAC Tournament quarterfinal loss, it signaled the end of a lot more than just the 2013-14 men's basketball season. It was the last time UB's all-time leading scorer, senior forward Javon McCrea and fellow seniors guards Josh Freelove and Jarod Oldham would play in a Bulls jersey and the end of what many had believed would be a special season. Here is The Spectrum sports staff's analysis of the Bulls' season. Three-point shooting: B Freelove was the Bulls' most prolific long-range shooter and the fourth most efficient three-point shooter in the MAC, hitting 41 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

Taking it to the house

One might expect a residence occupied by 1,416 total pounds of football players to be a house filled with talk of X's and O's and copious amounts of food. Only the latter is correct in the case of the house occupied by five Buffalo football players, however, as their home is usually filled with talk of computer programming and coding as opposed to audibles and gap assignments. Senior defensive lineman Colby Way, sophomore running back Anthone Taylor, junior offensive lineman Jake Silas and junior defensive linemen Dalton Barksdale and Kristjan Sokoli live together in the same house two minutes from North Campus.
