March was an eventful month for UB Athletics. It saw the conclusion of two of the most historic basketball seasons in school history.
The softball team is heading to the sunny shores of Florida for week three of the 2018 Eastern Michigan University Madeira Beach Spring Invitational starting Friday. The Bulls (5-7, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) head in having gone 4-0 in the Hampton Classic this past weekend. The team has already won more than half the games they did last season. Here is a breakdown of all five games the Bulls are scheduled for this weekend.

Men’s Basketball (15-4, MAC 9-7) The Men’s Basketball team lost the annual blackout game on Friday 89-83 to the Akron Zips (23-6, MAC 13-3). The game drew a large crowd because of the hype around the team and the free t-shirts.
Softball (14-27, 8-6 Mid-American Conference) The Bulls dominated their weekend series with Bowling Green (16-27, 4-10 MAC) at Nan Harvey Field.
Men’s basketball (17-14, 10-8 Mid-American Conference) The Bulls finished their final game of the regular season with a dramatic victory.

Buffalo, which went just 13-37 in Peel’s second season last year after an impressive and unexpected conference championship game appearance in 2014, is going to be relying on freshman heavily this season. Eight of the team’s 21 players are freshmen.

Former linebacker Khalil Mack and the rest of recently graduated senior class broke several school records and helped lead a banner year for UB athletics, as many teams enjoyed success, including the football team, which made its second ever bowl game.
Trena Peel has swagger. The first-year Buffalo head softball coach has won an SEC Player of the Year award, represented her country in the Junior Olympic games and excelled as a coach largely because of this simple yet often misunderstood trait. Swagger is a characteristic Peel wants her teams to encompass.
It's a big weekend for Buffalo athletics with Mid-American Conference titles and on the line for multiple teams and the football team playing its spring game.
