Instead of attempting some cliché introduction, I’ll get straight to the point: The Spectrum is amazing. And when I say The Spectrum, I mean all of it: the publication itself, its history, its staff and alumni, its office (and the decorations on the walls), and the impact it has on this campus.
My story of how I joined The Spectrum isn’t exciting or funny or interesting. It changed my life anyway.
“I’ve got the writing bug,” is what I said a few weeks into my time as an editor. I couldn’t stop pursuing stories and writing articles for The Spectrum.
If you told me three years ago that I would be an editor at The Spectrum, I would not have believed you. Going into my sophomore year, I felt disoriented. I was beginning a new major and readjusting to life after the pandemic lockdown.
So maybe I was wrong. Maybe I am a journalist. But more importantly, I found a family of wonderful, silly people who pulled me out of my shell and gave me a home. And I will be forever grateful to them.

With each instance that I went headphones-free, I grew fond of the observations and the details that I became perceptive to which enabled me to continue music-free walks.
The University at Buffalo failed its students last week. Instead of listening, instead of holding a dialogue, administrators chose force in a knee-jerk reaction. This runs counter to everything we believe in, and counter to what universities are supposed to stand for.
Every student needs snacks to fuel them through finals, but some snacks go above and beyond what the rest can achieve.
I encourage everyone who asks me about it to write for The Spectrum and to take the ENG 394 class with our faculty advisor, Matt Parrino. Through The Spectrum, I’ve met some of my closest friends here and improved drastically as a writer.
They talk too much. They sing too loud. They dance in the hallways. Theater kids have long been written off as a subculture for drama and inflated egos. But there's more to it.

C3 is an excellent place to eat, but, like all things in life, it has its excesses, temptations and evils.
Slut-shaming is accusing someone of being “too sexual” and using that as grounds to insult, harass or bully them. This can look like demeaning someone for wearing “revealing” clothes, making fun of someone for having sex and/or blaming victims of sexual assault. Women and girls are typically the victims of this type of harassment.
Of all student athletes, male Division I and Division II cross-country runners — my demographic — have the highest suicide rate. As a member of this most affected demographic, I’m here to offer some of my own insight.
With exams, projects, essays, part-time jobs, clubs, and classes, it’s safe to say that students have a lot on their plates. Sometimes it gets to be too much, and we find ourselves struggling. Most of the time, a simple solution is the answer.
Going to a gay bar shouldn’t be the only queer activity — what makes an activity queer at all is a bit of a nonsense classification anyways. But it’s hard to find anywhere else to go, especially in Buffalo. It’s not impossible, but there should be a wider variety of easily accessible queer spaces.
