Law students roll up their sleeves to help the homeless

Alongside the Affordable Housing Clinic, second and third year students at UB's School of Law have spent the past two semesters applying their textbook knowledge to the real world by helping to make affordable housing a possibility for the homeless in Buffalo.As a result of their efforts, the Cornerstone Manor, a shelter that will be able to house 122 women and children, will open in April.George Hezel, a clinical law professor in UB's School of Law, is involved with the Affordable Housing Clinic, a local non-profit organization that helps non-profit organizations give shelter to the homeless."This is an ongoing educational process which allows students to earn credits while assisting a non-profit organization.

A new approach to inconsistent buses

It's 4:25 p.m. at Lee Loop on North Campus. A bus should be here to take students home to South Campus, but it's not.Five minutes later, another bus is scheduled to depart for South, but it too fails to arrive.

Officials say fee increase needed for 7th year in a row

The cost of attending UB may rise even more next semester if a proposal to raise UB's undergraduate comprehensive fee is passed in an upcoming administrative decision.UB officials have proposed a five percent increase to the fee for the 2005-2006 school year, which would add $41 to the $738.25 paid each semester by undergraduate students.

UB's current busing team is the Bad News Bears of transportation. Mismatched, crowded, run-down buses offer maddeningly inconsistent service to the thousands of UB students who use them to travel between campuses, or from Ellicott to the Spine.

The Game dropped from Spring Fest

A recent change in this year's Spring Fest lineup will turn the fest from an all hip-hop and rap concert to a more diverse show with reggae artist Elephant Man replacing rapper The Game, according to Student Association officials.The Game, who originally agreed to an offer to perform, has dropped from the program, according to Dela Yador, SA vice president.Yador confirmed the change and said it was due to a better offer at another location, along with other unresolved issues between a few of the rappers.

Western New York is notorious for its long harsh winters, and with the extended cold days often comes an extended cold and flu season.While many reach for old-fashioned cold and flu remedies like Tylenol or Robitussin, or head to the physician's office for prescriptions, others choose to dabble in the world of alternative medicines.Recently becoming more popular is the use of homeopathic cures, or natural remedies.

Visual arts highlight Music is Art installment

Music is certainly art, but Tuesday night, the visual artists outshone the music. Intriguing concepts and fascinating compositions were the highlight of the third installment of "Music Is Art" at the Center For the Arts.This event featured musical performances by David Wasik and Fold in Half Cat as well as the work of UB art students and local artists.Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" inspired artist Burke Paterson's work.
